Our Vision
The face of China is veiled in
history and legend, shifting indistinctly between the
culture of yesterday and today. From tall pagodas on the
shores of misty lakes to the ancient residences of tea
merchants in dusty old towns; from the spectacle of a
vast farmland plateau seen from the peak of a sacred Buddhist
mountain to the frenzied rush of faces in the downtown
streets of the east coast metropolises: this multi-dimensional
reality of modern China tantalises all who wish to experience
the country, and yet remains forever just beyond reach.
Foreigners who seek a deeper understanding have a herculean
task ahead; breaking through the tangle of tradition,
politics and culture can take a lifetime, and most who
visit this place may only catch a glimpse of something
inestimably precious - the real China. |

BEIJING MATRIC
is determined to bridge the gap. We are proud of our country
and committed to making connections between China and the world,
communicating some of the mystery of China to those who wish
to learn. Through our book series China through the Looking
Glass and our regular writer's events, our production house
aims to bring English-speaking writers (and their readers) right
up to China's traditionally closed doors - and help to open
them. Our growing collection of titles on both familiar and
new Chinese destinations are some of the most detailed and focussed
context guides for foreign travellers in China that exist.
Welcome, one and all, to take a peek
through our looking glass and get closer to China.
