About Sichuan

Sichuan is recognized the world over as one of China’s most beautiful and culturally diverse provinces. With breathtaking landscapes, it boasts over 4,000 unique tourist attractions including five World Heritage sites.

Its history is rich. The ruins at Sanxingdui and Jinsha, for example, tell us just how important the Yangtze river basin was to the development of early Chinese civilization, while modern Sichuan is home to the second largest Tibetan population in China, the biggest Yi minority group, and China’s only ethnic Qiang community.

From the snowy, icy peaks of Gongga Shan to the grasslands of Tagong, and the ancient walled town of Songpan to the hot springs of Hailuguo, Sichuan has something to offer everyone. Its cuisine is famous throughout the world, and adds to the province’s charm and individuality. There is an old saying in Sichuan: “When someone visits, he will not want to leave.”

Giant Pandas also inhabit Sichuan. 85% of the world’s entire panda population, in fact---hence the province’s nickname, “Home of the Giant Panda”. This, combined with the astonishing natural environment, ancient history and plethora of ethnic traditions and culture, makes Sichuan province a unique region in the west of China---and undoubtedly a “Land of Abundance”.
